You know I’ve been thinking recently. At my workplace I watch a lot of news programs. There are a lot of news programs that span the gamut of television. Morning News, Afternoon News, Evening News, News Magazine shows- there’s even news that happens late late night. Sometimes it’s called early early morning shows. I wonder sometimes who wants to watch the news in the middle of the night. I don’t really think there’s much breaking news when people are asleep. I would suppose they would be satisfied with the regular infomercials, or with the test pattern with the Star Spangled Banner in the background. However I have never seen that on TV myself- no matter how late I stay up. I only see it on the T.V. Perhaps the same shows that air during the late late night. But anyways I digress.
Andy Rooney, the trademark commentator that appears at the end of 60 Minutes is quite the spectacle. Now I agree that his cranky banter on topics ranging from the names of cars to the names of medicines are sometimes annoying, but I enjoy them. Mostly because I find them funny. If you were to ask someone they would probably say he’s irritable and would likely flip the channel.
Watching tapes of 60 minutes I like to laugh at Andy Rooney, maybe even with him. I like the banter and I find a certain wittiness about it. Even though most of the time he’s just the cranky old man that’s sitting on a bench in the park. I can’t really point my finger on why exactly I find his delivery catchy. Maybe I’m just suffering from some kind of stress disorder where I can with stand minutes upon minutes of Andy Rooney. Kinda like how a person that is so tired he is unaware of the world around him.
I wonder if anyone is thinking the same way I am- that it’s funny to listen to Andy Rooney, not because he makes good points (because he doesn’t), but you can appreciate his trademark delivery and uncanny sense of the world.
