Carless In Washington DC

waldhitch Updating you on my piece of shit car, I have dropped it off at the body shop last week and I have been living without a car now for several days. It’s not as bad as I orignally have thought; I’ve been walking to and from work and the gym and in reality I don’t live too far from either. The only pain has been grocery shopping which my roommates have been ever so kind to help me with.

Even though I live close to work I am often asked why I don’t walk everyday and the reason became apprently last week as the walking uphill in work attire with 90 degree weather was not conducive to my sweat glands. After a walk to or from work I was sweating more than Shaq at the foul line.

Walking around town and using the Metro has made me think though about living without a car. If the weather was a lot cooler it’s something I could really consider doing (especially with rising gas prices.) If I’m not in a rush in the morning I may just take more leasurely strolls to work. I already try and run to the gym in order to get some more cardio in. Maybe I’ll even get a bike and just use that.

Overall I’m not going to stop driving anytime soon but it’s nice to know I think I can live with less of it in my life.
