The Cho Show

23I enjoy Asians comedians. It’s weird when you think of an Asian comedian- definitely not the line of work most Asians choose. But it’s people like Dr. Ken, Henry Cho, Bobby Lee, Steve Byrne, Kevin Shea, and even Dat Phan that make me feel that even I can be funny. However we cannot forget the original Kim of comedy: Margaret Cho.

So I was surprised to see that VH1 has created a reality show about her called The Cho Show. After her attempts at TV with All American Girl I didn’t think she would return to television. She has since taken a non-mainstream approach to her comedy which I wouldn’t think would make good… wait a minute… she’s perfect for VH1.

So I just saw it while walking pass the living room but here’s my quick take on it:

Reality shows follow a very simple recipe. Just take a bunch of scripted and pre-arranged scenes, add all your famous friends and family and voila, reality show. This show is more of the same.

I can’t believe that she has a midget personal assistant, it does make sense as it builds into the crazy image that she has created.

I think Margaret Cho is the Asian Kathy Griffin. Think about it.

It’s too bad the show isn’t that great- I personally like Margaret Cho’s stuff.
