Finding The Third Place: Panera Bread – Ballston

by Patrick on September 17, 2008

It was a Saturday and it was raining- why not try and find a place to get some work done? It’s not like I was going to do anything outdoors.

I was thinking of what place I was going to try next and I decided to visit the Panera Bread at the Ballston Common Mall. I figured it was Saturday so I wouldn’t run into the Sunday brunch crowd (I can imagine them sipping coffee and reading their newspapers- does anybody read newspapers anymore?)

I walked in and I saw that I wasn’t the only one with a computer, a few others took tables and were quietly tapping away. I was already liking the scene. I ordered a coffee and sat myself down and set up shop. I found it really easy to work as I started to draft some blog entries. At one point after staring out the window to the outdoor seating I turned to my right and realized I was sitting in a mall. After briefly feeling like I was a 16 year old with nothing better to do I quickly got back to work.

Mid-way through my second post I got a phone call- I had to go pick up some friends at the airport.

While the visit was cut way shorter than I would of liked it was a great place to spend some time during the day, if it was only open later I’d have a winner. Oh ya if it wasn’t in a mall that’d be cool too.
