Fantasy Friday: First Round Curse

i11642-2005apr23Now I know how the 49ers feel.

Like it or not- I’m coming out now and saying that Alex Smith is a bust. He was the first overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft and since then he hasn’t become the next Steve Young. In fact this year he’s riding the pine with a broken shoulder. He’s probably going to be released next season.

Now like the 49ers, I know what it feels like to spend that first pick on someone who later fails to meet expectations. It seems to happen to me every year.

In the three years of playing Fantasy Football in my work league here are my first round picks:

Luckily that’s why I always believe in RB depth- because I always seem to mess up the first pick.

Now on to Week 8:

TMG Sportsline League (4-3)

Pho Sho vs. Brooklyn Zoo

After losing two straight this is a must win for me- I’m counting on 2008 Brett Favre to be like 2007 Brett Favre, not 2006 Brett Favre. I’m now suddenly thin at WR- stupid Anquan Boldin. However this matchup looks to be in my favor.

Yahoo! League (4-1-1)

Pho Shizzle vs. Pasadena Mudslides

Again I’m coming off a loss but also like my work league I am facing a weaker opponent this week.

Diet Yahoo! League (6-1)

Donte’s $37 Million vs. Emo Prairie Dogs

My team in this league appears to be at full strength but I am not under estimating my opponent here. I will be rooting for Kurt Warner and hoping Drew Brees has some jet lag over in England.
