“That isn’t how Craigslist works!”
Those the words of Lynn Ritter as I walked away with her TV. As you know this past week was dedicated to putting the finishing touches on the new house. Last weekend I moved in all my stuff but most of this week was spent unpacking, cleaning, and finding furniture. One thing I’ve loved about this house is the fact that I get a blank canvas in an clean and empty house. The downside of it is the fact that it’s a clean and empty house- there’s nothing in it to live!
So I have spent a lot of last week looking for TVs, microwaves, dressers, and couches. Of course I want all these items on the cheap so I decided to go on Craigslist to find these items. I figured I can get used items that are better/same quality of the low end items I’d settle for at Target or Wal-Mart.
The JVC 27″ unit cost $50 and was in like-new condition, a great deal I think. Lynn told me that there was another buyer interested but couldn’t pick it up for a few days- and she told him that she’d sell it to the first person that could pick it up with the cash. That person was me- and that’s where I told her, “Lucky that I beat him to it- and you decided to not hold it.”
I’ve used Craigslist to look for a place to live- but I’ve never bought anything off of Craigslist- so this week was pretty much a new experience. To call up random people and come to their homes was something that felt awkward. However after buying a TV and a microwave off of Craigslist I was already feeling comfortable with the routine and I continued searching and I got a free couch, a TV stand, and a great deal on an Ikea dresser.
After furnishing my house through Craigslist I proceeded to use it for a purpose I was more familiar with- finding roommates. Sarah and I had an open house this past weekend and tonight I’m happy to say we made an offer to a new roommate I think will be a great addition to Highland Street.
Man I’m still not used to saying that.
Things weren’t all about Craigslist this past week, I caught the Jazz/Wizards game with the MoCo crew and I frolicked around Georgetown with Carrie- but pretty much this week was all about Craigslist.
Now there’s one more thing I need to complete my house- a table for my room. At least I know the first place to go to find a good table at a cheap price.
