Lilu is often dumbfounded by The Shiz Her Boyfriend Says.
In honor of that I’ve titled today’s post, “The Shiz My Family Says”
This past weekend my family came down to enjoy The Cherry Blossoms and meetup with friends and family (including me.)
Danny spent the night over my place on Friday where we met up with my stage managing buddies and we went to The Port City Players production of Doubt, which featured our director from Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. Afterwards Danny and I just hung out and watched Be Kind Rewind and Waiting. Around closing time we went out to walk the streets to see the crowds exit the bars, and Danny couldn’t believe his eyes- so many drunk people all in one place:
My brother’s Facebook status: “DC knows how to party”
He’s only 17 so I couldn’t of taken him out- unlike my sister Kim who turned 21 yesterday and could of celebrated in style had she came down. We walked by all the Clarendon Ballroom which had a large amount of sketch guys walk out at closing time- only confirming my long standing thoughts that only douchebags go to the Ballroom.
Saturday Danny and I slept in and eventually made it out to the Newseum to check it out on it’s first anniversary. It was pretty cool and we took some neat photos on the Pennsylvania Avenue terrace. Afterwords we met up with our parents and my Aunt Jackie and Uncle Young at Present, a new Vietnamese restaurant near (where else) Seven Corners. Apparently it’s gotten great reviews with the locals:
Young: “It should be a good restaurant, all the F.O.B’s love it!”
Mom: “What?”
Jackie: “The fresh off the boat people like it!”
Mom: “Oh good!”
We enjoyed a night of typical Vietnamese cuisine, you’ll hear more over at Metblogs this week when I do a more formal write-up. I will say that my parents did take notice that the restaurant attracted a very diverse crowd:
[Regarding a white party being served an entire Rockfish cooked Vietnamese style]
Mom: “Oh no, they ordered the fish- do they know how to eat it?”
Me: “I’m sure they know…”
Mom: “I don’t know they are white…they might not know how to eat that thing!”
Love the ignorance of my parents.
