Fantasy Baseball: Oh Manny.

by Patrick on May 12, 2009

Dodgers Ramirez Drugs BaseballLast week Peter ran into my office with the breaking news that Manny has been suspended for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.

I’m really sad to hear about it, I’m a little less sad since Manny left me and Red Sox nation a pretty sour taste with the drama from last season however my one of my favorite writers, Bill Simmons isn’t taking it as well.

To me Manny is just the latest in a whole pile of players that will forever paint this as the steroid era in baseball, it’s sad but I hope we can move on hope players take the hint.

Let’s see where how my fantasy teams are doing:

untitled-2Beltway Bandits (50-49-36)

Before a decisive victory last week I was dwelling in the basement of my Boston vs. DC league. No thanks to Chris Davis. Sure he’s hitting the home runs but he’s also .221 and striking out like it’s in style. Davis is now on my bench- I signed Ryan Theriot and moved Michael Young from SS to 3rd. I was happy about picking up trendy sleeper Chris Carpenter… until he remembered that he’s injury prone and he’s now back on the D/L. My star catcher Brian McCann is also on the D/L thanks to complications from Lasik. However he’s now back and I am trying to unload Mike Napoli in the meantime… anybody want a power hitting catcher?

A-Roid’s Cousin (30-24-6)

While my corner positions are solid (for now) it’s my middle infield that’s bringing my team down. I took a risk on two players and they have both let me down. Alexei Ramirez? Benched by the White Sox. Mike Aviles? I cut him and picked up Cristian Guzman- at least now I can root for someone when I go to see the Nationals. Otherwise my offense is ok… except now I got Steroid Manny sitting on my bench doing nothing but poppin’ fertility drugs. I also have no starting pitching what so ever. Thanks John Lackey.
