A Fashionably Late Swine Flu Attack

by Patrick on July 7, 2009

3486397983_b0e984af70_bRemember back in April when everybody was talking about Swine Flu? We all thought that it was the end of the world and that hell was freezing over. I even wrote earlier that we should stop worrying about the Swine Flu. Well a couple months go by and now the Swine Flu is still around but it isn’t as bad as we thought it would be.

Which is great because I got this hum dinger of an e-mail at work today:

Subject: Office Alert

Many of you are aware that #####’s son contracted swine flu late last week. On Friday, ##### also began experiencing symptom’s and after visiting a doctor was also diagnosed with the H1N1 virus…

Fantastic.

This person (who’s name will be withheld to protect the swine flu stricken) happens to be the same person who just spent two weeks working to fix the laptop I type this post on.

Am I worried? Not too much, however I can’t wait to get the flu if it means I can stay home for a week and watch The Price Is Right! In fact I should start buying ice cream in anticipation for the time off.

Of course if I’m next them there’s probably the off chance I die. In which case somebody better take over this blog and take care of my online life.

While I’m not too worried I will say this: why now? Swine Flu is so April 2009. It’s July people! Why couldn’t our office get it when it was cool and scary, now it’s dismissive and not really a big deal.

It’s kind of like when you get what’s was hot for Christmas in 2007… on Christmas 2009.

But then again it makes sense that we got Swine Flu now, it took us forever to get new computers, maybe the office outbreak was stuck cutting through the office bureaucracy.

I guess Swine Flu is passe so it would be almost embarrassing to get it now. So good luck – hope you stay healthy!

That’s exactly what I was thinking, I woke up thinking I was getting sick so I don’t know if it’s in my head now…

Oh noes! Don’t feel too bad though; one of my good friends just got it at her office last month, so you are not TOO far behind the trend.

    Feel better.

I remember staying home as a kid and being really disappointed that the only thing on TV was The Price…

The cost of not yet having cable.

Maybe you should order a pig liquor flask so you can have appropriate refreshments during your quarantine period.

I’m pretty sure if you just eat an entire rasher of bacon, that’s the same thing as getting a vaccine.

Ajw93: Eh I never get the cool things when they are cool…

Maxie: Well if I get it you can come over and we’ll share some food or something.

f.B: At first I felt like you- but now the TPIR is just a staple of daytime TV

Len: I love that- somebody tell me Rum is good for the Swine Flu!

LiLu: At the same time I don’t think I want an entire rasher of bacon- but isn’t that a great unit of measure… rasher…

Alice: That’s my point, if I catch Swine Flu nobody will care and I’ll die.
