4th of July Fireworks by DC Digital Photography

Why do I wear the same shirt during similar moments?

Looking back to last year’s 4th of July I see that I was wearing the same t-shirt I wore this past Saturday.

It must be the shirt I wear when I want to celebrate our Nation’s birthday the only way I know how.

The long weekend started the minute work got out on Thursday. I went out to Bar Louie for a happy hour with some DC Metblogs writers. I always enjoy meeting up with my authors and it gave me a chance to try out a new place. Bar Louie is really swanky and I really enjoyed the non-alcoholic cocktails, however the place is a bit on the pricey side at the end of the night. It may have been the premium drinks we ended up ordering- a return trip maybe necessary. I also decided to say hi to some wonderful people at Fuddruckers before calling it a night. The place got really full after I arrived, I didn’t know that it was a happening place at night.

I managed a productive Friday, I got a haircut, I went to the gym, and I shopped for everything I needed for my 4th of July BBQ. After all that productivity I was ready for some nonsense. That night I met up with Wendi to hang out with some of her friends at Eighteenth Street Lounge. I think it’s a great place and it is rather classy, but I’m not that big of a fan. I’m not into dress codes and cover charges, but it does have a cool deck that has a certain urban charm to it. It looks like I was there the same time that The Pumpernickel was but I was paying less attention to the people that were around me and more attention to various conversations I was jumping in and out of.

The night ended with a run-in with the Real World DC cast but that is a story you’ll have to hear later.

Saturday I woke up sometime after 11 AM wondering how I managed to stay out that late and how I was going to survive The 4th. It was the night I was going to go all out after all.

I cleaned up the house and The MoCo crew arrived for some burgers, beer, and fun. Adam walked over from his new place in Court House to help me grill and make burgers. Again I know nothing about cooking- why did I volunteer to have a BBQ then? Everything went great however and a good time was had. I even made Skippy and it wasn’t half bad. Doug and Katie even brought Moose and we all had fun feeding him hot dogs. For fireworks we all walked over to Adam’s new place at The Meridian and we managed to get a pretty good view of the DC Fireworks.

After the fireworks a bunch of us decided to go into Old Town Alexandria and I finally got a chance to go to a bar down in that neighborhood. Trying to get back to Arlington from Braddock Road however reminded me why I don’t go to Old Town that often.

Let’s see what my other bloggy friends were up to:

All in all everybody had a smashing 4th of July. I’m ready to recover for Baltimore on Saturday. Oy.

I keep meaning to try Bar Louie, especially as it’s from Illinois!

And yes, I wouldn’t recommend going to Union Station to see a movie on the 3rd of July unless you want to murder tourists. I also wouldn’t recommend going there EVER.

I have still never been to ESL. I think I’ve been in this city way too long to admit that.

i specifically avoiding anything and everything remotely tourist-like all weekend long, just so that i wouldn’t spend the rest of it in jail after accidental manslaughter.

Lusty Reader: I didn’t know that Union Station had a theatre… and I never will…

f.B: You have been, but you gotta look classy. You always do but me? Not so much.

Alice: No wonder you were taking that taxi to VA asap!

It’s not a party unless at some point there is the possibility of a lawsuit at some point… right?
