In the wake of another weekend of destruction in Baltimore, I’m desperately in need of a weekend where I can sleep in and give my body (and my liver) a break.
I was also thinking about what happens the morning after. Even though I woke up Sunday morning on a kitchen floor (albeit with a pillow and a sleeping bag) others that morning woke up worse than me.
We’ve all been there, morning after a good night out/in/all over and you are feeling the effects. Maybe you feel sick, maybe you feel regretful, maybe you still feel drunk. Hydration, ibuprofen, and greasy food all become great ideas and if you are lucky, you still have your keys, your car, and your dignity (most often not.)
The Hangover: Paying people back for over 10,000 years.
Now while I may be left tired and a little thirsty after some nights, I actually bounce back pretty well. I don’t know if it’s my genes or my age, my recovery from a long night might take longer and longer til the age I’m just an unconscious statue the entire day after:
Most morning-afters I can count on me doing the following things:
- Waking up close to 8-9 AM to take a piss (damn weekday sleeping patterns!)
- Falling back asleep
- Waking up at noon
- Hopefully downing my recovery drink of choice: Gatorade (it’s got electrolytes!)
- If I’m hungry I will totally do lunch/brunch/dinner
- At some point I gotta go do a #2 (TMI? Sorry I know it’s not Thursday yet.)
- I take the second nap
- Wake up again and regret wasting my day, whatever I did last night, hitting on that girl or any girl
- Take a shower and continue whatever day I have left
What do you do when you are hungover? Notice I don’t really need an Advil because I rarely wake up with headaches (however I know exactly what I need to drink to get them.) If I do have one that’s where the second nap comes in- I sleep it off.
