One of the big reasons I’m behind on life is because I flew back home last week to attend my sister’s engagement ceremony. For those non-Vietnamese out there it’s a tradition that involves lots of praying, food, and bowing. Check out Wikipedia and this very informative article explaining some of the customs.
So I flew back home and spent the weekend with my family. It’s as stressful as it seems. I did have a chance to catch up with a few of my favorites back home- but it was all family last weekend.
I’ve been to a few ceremonies so I knew what was going down, however I was surprised how crazy the preparations were leading up to it- I guess it is bigger than the wedding sometimes. The guest list was also very interesting, my mom even invited the family dentist to come and watch. Again it must of been a big deal.
It was also so weird to hear my Dad, who never speaks ever, address an entire crowd of people in a language he barely knows.
All in all it was a great weekend with family, and while I thought I was off the hook- I was told I might have to do the same thing when I get married.
Maybe it’s a good thing I’m single and lonely after all.

Good point about your brother…the splash of blue from his tie is decidedly NOT emo.

I think its really cool that your family did things traditionally. Being a mutt when it comes to my heritage, any and all culture we might have had is long gone.

I kinda think it’s cool- I’m pretty Americanized and I like to go back to my roots every once and awhile.
