Earlier this week the Nationals were able to close the deal and signed their top draft pick Stephen Strasburg (if they didn’t It would of been another monumental fail.)
I too also closed a deal at the beginning of the week, for my fantasy team.
In my Yahoo! Keeper League I made a move to add some depth to my terrible rotation, and I sent Manny Ramirez over to another team for Adam Wainwright. I followed the gospel of ESPN writer Shawn Peters, especially his point that it is ok to “overpay a little bit.” When it’s down to the trading deadline- you don’t have time to dick around with lowball offers- don’t try and be cute, just make a legit offer. To which I did.
While I’m sad to see Ramirez go, his season stats were mostly from a hot April. His 1st half stats shadow over his current production. He’s still a great player, it’s just with my batting depth he become expendable in my eyes. In Wainwright I hope to have him anchor a rotation that’s been plagued with mediocrity. Cole Hamels, and Gil Meche have been disappointing while John Lackey is finally starting to turn things around.
Now let’s hope this is enough for me to make the push towards first place.
