Like everybody else in The District, I’ve become a faithful follower of The Real World DC. While most of us are really only watching it because the show was filmed in our city (and we are vain like that) I am also watching it for my weekly recaps I am writing over at Metblogs. While I was writing my recap for episode 5, I made note of Josh’s fight with his girlfriend over an Internet blog post she ran across of him making out with a girl.
The Was A Clip Here But MTV Found It And Things Got Real.
From watching the clip I assumed the blog post was about his encounter with DC socialite Kelly Ann Collins, with whom he made out with earlier in the episode. However while writing the recap I tried to find the post that might of been the leak about Kelly Ann’s tryst with Josh. I couldn’t find it. I dismissed the lack of evidence and just figured Josh’s girlfriend heard it through the grapevine. (I later found out that the Kelly Ann Collins hook-up was leaked through a tweet sent out by RealWorldDCNewz.)
Later that night I got a comment on my blog that read, “Even if you weren’t on the show, at least the content of this blog made the TV show last night.”
I didn’t know what she was talking about until I re-read my first encounter with the cast.
That’s when I realized that the blog Ashley was read was mine, she was looking at the photo of my and the Brazilian girl that made out with Josh with the exact same caption that she read on-air.
In post-production it’s very common for the editors to piece together episodes using clips from various days, often mixing up the time line of how the events really occurred (the cast is asked not to get their hair cut while on the show for continuity.) It would make total sense for them to take a fight from another instance of Josh cheating and place it after the night Josh made out with Kelly Ann to make it appear that Josh got in trouble immediately after he committed the caper.
Regardless of how MTV edited the clip in- the phone call speaks for itself, looks like the something I had a hand in caused a little argument and for the couple to cool things off. In essence I kinda broke up Josh & Ashley. However having relationship coming into a reality show is asking for trouble.
Looks like I’m a reality TV home wrecker.
